HAIR REMOVAL SEEN HISTORICALLY

The removal of body hair has a long tradition. In addition to religious reasons, hygienic aspects were playing an important role. Water was especially precious in the hot regions, and so shaving was used to minimize illnesses. In Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece and Rome, body hair was considered barbaric – the hairless body corresponded to the ideal of beauty at that time. In addition to shaving, people were also diligently waxing and scraping back then. The sugar gel was found in the ancient Egyptians as well as the depilatory paste Rhusma Turcorum, a mixture of slaked lime and starch, in the Greeks. The Romans plucked with tweezers, and even Cleopatra was said to have used beeswax to get rid of annoying hair. Tried and tested methods for permanent hair removal that we in Zurich, adapted to the present day, are still in use. Thanks to antiquity!

CONVENTIONAL METHODS

There are many methods of permanent hair removal. For some, a painful fit of screaming is preprogrammed, for others it is painless. All the old, conventional methods have one thing in common – it has to be done regularly. When shaving or with depilatory creams, the hair is only removed superficially, and it constantly grows back. Isn’t this really frustrating? During epilation, the hair is removed along with the roots, but conventional epilators can also be very painful.SugaringBrazilian waxing or, quite simply, the traditional tweezers help. And we use all of these methods in our studio in Zurich for permanent hair removal.

MODERN METHODS OF PERMANENT HAIR REMOVAL

However, thanks to innovative technology, there are new methods for permanent hair removal that make women or men look beautiful without pain. The best known is the laser method. Light penetrates the skin with a very high wavelength and can burn the deep-lying hair roots. However, this method is not working for blonde hair, as the hair lacks melanin which is required for the treatment. The IPL method (intense pulsed light) sends out light waves just like lasers. Here, a flash lamp emits light impulses that force the nutrient cells of the hair roots to die. It is important to pay attention to the growth cycle of the hair, as only existing hair in a certain growth stage can be removed. The SHR (super hair removal) method is a combination of lasers and IPL. Light impulses hit the melanin cells again and destroy them. At the same time, the resulting heat ensures that the hair follicles are destroyed. The hair falls out after 1 to 5 weeks. Regions treated in this way can no longer form new hair cells. The advantage of this method is that light and dark hair can be removed equally well.

PERMANENT HAIR REMOVAL FAQ – QUESTION & ANSWER

We get many questions about permanent hair removal on a daily basis. Is Permanent Hair Removal Safe? Does it hurt? Is it really permanent? How do I prepare myself for the treatment?

These questions are all important, and of course you should know the answer before starting your first treatment. So we’ve collected all the FAQs where we can imagine they’re worth sharing!

What do I need to do to prepare for my permanent hair removal treatment?

You should not get any sun exposure on your skin for two weeks before your permanent hair removal. The laser sizzles away any pigment on your skin, including spray tanning products. We can arrange your treatment on the day of your consultation. So shave the evening before (ideally 24 hours before), but do not use wax or depilatory creams for two weeks before the treatment.

We cannot treat you if you have had the vitamin A sun tanning injections in the past six months. If you have bleached your hair, you will need to let it grow back to its normal color before proceeding with laser treatment. Otherwise, no further preparation is required other than shaving the area the night before and avoiding using deodorants and other skin products on the area on the day of your treatment.

What results can I expect from permanent hair removal?

You will notice a dramatic decrease in the density and thickness of the hair in the treated area. Once you’ve completed your treatment plan, expect long-term hair removal. Our non-binding advice will help you to determine your long-term result.

What can I expect after the treatment?

In the following weeks, the treated hair will fall out. The timing of your treatments will dramatically affect the result due to hair growth patterns.

The treatment area may appear “burned” after treatment. Recovery cream (after laser treatment) and cold compresses relieve the discomfort and swelling. Avoid applying makeup to the area. While it is unlikely that bubbles will appear, stay away from the sun. Use at least SPF 30+ sunscreen on the treated area to avoid complications, as your skin will be particularly sensitive to the sun for 48 hours after treatment.

Will it work for my skin type and hair color?

Laser hair removal works on almost any skin type – from very fair skinned people (or Type I on the Fitzpatrick Scale, a skin typing test) to Type V or even VI (dark skin). Some terms to consider: Fair-skinned people are usually treated by an alexandrite or diode laser, while dark-skinned people are treated by a Nd: YAG laser.

Blonde, gray, or light red hair is difficult to treat. If the facility advertises lasers that are suitable for any hair color, it is likely that IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is used to remove lighter hair. Blondes and redheads need to do additional research to ensure that the facility they choose is familiar with IPL.

Where can I remove my hair?

The only place to avoid is around the eyes and eyebrows, the upper cheeks and temples need to be plucked or waxed for the rest of your life – because of the risk of laser eye damage. Recommended regions are the armpits and bikini line.

What are the risks of permanent hair removal?

The greatest risk with lasers is eye damage. Both you and the person operating the laser should wear protective glasses that are specific to the type of laser being used. Other risks include blistering, scarring, and burns, which can discolor your skin. However, it is normal to experience redness and swelling.

It is extremely important that customers tell us about contraindications, medications, and deviations from your skin care regimen that you have undertaken before and during your treatment.

If you have any further questions, please contact Backstage Beauty in Zurich and make an appointment for a consultation.

What can I expect from my first treatment?

Before your first treatment, you need a short 15-minute consultation with one of our technicians. This is needed to find out your skin and hair type, assess your suitability for treatment, and discuss how to prepare your skin for the best possible result. If you require treatment on the day of your consultation, it can usually be arranged as well.

Will Laser Hair Removal remove ingrown hair?

Lasers can reduce the chance of ingrown hairs. If there is no hair in the follicle, there is less chance of ingrown hairs occurring.

    Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?

Laser hair removal has quickly become one of the most effective options for permanent hair removal. No laser clinic can claim 100% hair removal, as some hair always strives to grow back. Regrowth can be affected by hormones and other biological factors, which can vary from person to person.

How long do I need between treatment sessions?

Treatments should be given every 4-6 weeks as recommended by your technician. Every customer is unique. Therefore, your technician will advise you individually and according to your hair and skin type.

    Does it hurt?

The procedure hurts – but not particularly badly. It feels like some kind of sting and is commonly described as a rubber band that snaps against your skin. However, it only stings for a millisecond – which is exactly the time it takes for the laser to aim at the hair follicles (which of course means it hits each hair follicle). While your skin may be a little red and puffy after the procedure, you shouldn’t feel any pain in the area when you leave the studio.

    How long is one session?

The actual procedure time depends on the area treated. Each hair follicle is treated in a millisecond, so a small area (like the armpits) can take less than five minutes, while a larger area (like the legs) can take half an hour. Six to ten treatments are recommended for the time it takes before you are completely hairless.
